Psychological violence is also widespread, affecting 43% of women. Wage differences: women earn 7.6% less than a man for an hour of work and this wage gap increases to 20.6% over a year. Representation in leadership positions: Despite a female labor participation rate of 48.4%, only 34.2% occupy leadership positions. The gap is wider among the highest educated, with a wage gap of 18% between male and female master's degree holders. Representation in politics, sports, and culture: Although the percentage of female deputies in the federal Parliament has increased from 12% in 1995 to nearly 40% today, only 7.5% of women hold positions as chairwomen of boards of directors, and 7.7% are CEOs in European Union countries. The company concludes by stating that difference should not engender inequality, but should strive for equity.
